Database Platform Lead (PostgreSQL / AWS / Oracle)

We are looking for a Database Platform Lead (PostgreSQL / AWS / Oracle) to take ownership of Unlimit’s database platform and lead its next stage of evolution.

This is a hands-on leadership role (≈80% technical / 20% leadership) where you will:

• stabilize and scale a large, high-load transactional database landscape,

• define standards and best practices,

• build observability and reliability into the platform by default,

• mentor and guide DBAs and engineers,

• prepare the data platform to support future AI-driven services.

What You’ll Do

• Own the end-to-end database platform (PostgreSQL, Oracle, AWS, DocumentDB, MongoDB).

• Assess the current database landscape, identify bottlenecks, and drive improvements.

• Design and maintain HA/DR architectures with clear RPO/RTO and PITR strategies.

• Build and standardize monitoring, alerting, and performance visibility.

• Enable self-service, automation, and GitOps-driven database operations.

• Define security and governance standards (encryption, access models, auditing).

• Reduce operational “monkey jobs” through automation and AI-assisted tooling.

• Mentor DBAs and collaborate closely with engineering, SRE, and product teams.

• Drive the platform toward 99.95%+ availability.

Must Have

• 5+ years of experience in database engineering or administration, including leadership responsibilities

• Strong hands-on expertise in PostgreSQL (replication, partitioning, performance tuning, PgBouncer/RDS Proxy, vacuum strategies, pgvector)

• Solid experience with Oracle (backup/restore, AWR/ASH, Data Guard or equivalents)

• Production experience with AWS data services (Aurora, RDS, DocumentDB, MongoDB)

• Proven HA/DR and PITR implementation experience

• Experience operating high-load, transactional systems

• Strong understanding of database security and governance (encryption, IAM, RLS/VPD, secrets management)

• Experience with Infrastructure as Code and automation (Terraform, GitOps)

Nice to Have

• Multi-region or global database topologies (Aurora Global, cross-region replication)

• CDC and migration tooling (AWS DMS, Debezium)

• Cost optimization and capacity planning experience

• - Experience integrating database observability into AIOps or ChatOps workflows

• Demonstrated AI awareness and curiosity about emerging AI technologies

• Hands-on experience using AI tools (e.g., LLMs, automation frameworks, AI-assisted development tools) to improve operational efficiency, automation, or database performance
