DB Platform Engineer
We are looking for a Senior / Team Lead DB‑SRE (PostgreSQL) to own, evolve, and scale Finom’s mission‑critical database infrastructure. As the Reliability Owner of our core banking PostgreSQL environment, you will combine deep technical expertise with strategic leadership to ensure our database systems are highly available, resilient, secure, and ready to scale with our rapid growth. This role is hands‑on, high‑impact, and central to Finom’s platform reliability. You will define the long‑term database architecture, lead improvements, and guide the team through best practices while staying closely involved in operational execution.
What You Will Be Doing
Database Reliability Ownership
Own the reliability, uptime, and continuity of Finom’s PostgreSQL banking databases
Define and lead database scalability and performance strategy
Drive architectural decisions for high‑availability, multi‑region, and multi‑cluster environments
Manage risk related to data loss, corruption, and operational failures
High Availability, DR & Scaling
Design and implement HA setups (streaming replication, clustering, failover automation)
Establish and enforce RPO/RTO standards, DR architecture, and run regular DR drills
Oversee backup, recovery, and validation automation
Performance & Observability
Lead proactive performance tuning, load testing, and query optimization
Define SLIs/SLOs and create monitoring frameworks using Prometheus / Grafana
Build alerting, logging, and diagnostics pipelines
Team Leadership
Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and standards definition
Lead code and architecture reviews related to database reliability
Partner cross‑functionally with backend, platform, SRE, and security teams
Automation & Infra
Build Infrastructure‑as‑Code (Terraform/Ansible) for DB orchestration
Improve automation around deployments, schema management, and operations
Work with GCP cloud‑managed PostgreSQL, storage tuning, and resource optimization
Who You Are
Experience & Leadership
7+ years as a PostgreSQL DBA in high‑load, production, mission‑critical environments
Experience in financial services / fintech is a strong advantage
Proven Team Lead experience: technical ownership, mentoring, standards setting
PostgreSQL Expertise
Deep understanding of PostgreSQL internals (MVCC, WAL, vacuum, planner, checkpoints)
Strong index knowledge (b‑tree, GIN, GiST, SP‑GiST, BRIN, RUM)
Advanced query plan analysis and optimization
Expertise in partitioning, sharding, capacity planning, forecasting
HA & Disaster Recovery
Experience designing streaming replication, clustering, failover
Strong understanding of RPO/RTO and DR design
Multi‑region cluster experience, DR drills, backup/restore automation
Performance & Scalability
PgBouncer (session/transaction modes) expertise
Experience identifying and eliminating bottlenecks
Load testing, benchmarking, and scalability planning
Security & Compliance
Understanding of frameworks such as PCI‑DSS and GDPR
Experience with secure credential management and secrets handling
Observability & Automation
Experience designing monitoring with Prometheus, Grafana, VictoriaMetrics
Ability to define SLIs/SLOs and build diagnostics pipelines
IaC with Terraform / Ansible
Cloud & Infra
Strong GCP experience (Cloud SQL/PostgreSQL)
Solid Linux administration fundamentals
Understanding of storage, IOPS, and network performance impacts
Experience with Redis / BigQuery is a plus
Fundamental Skills
Strong SQL (complex queries, functions, stored procedures)
Vacuum tuning, index lifecycle management, statistics optimization
Experience with additional data systems (Cassandra, ClickHouse — plus)
