About this role

We're looking for a VP of Engineering to join our leadership team and help us transform TaxDome into an AI-first engineering organization. This isn't a "maintenance" job. This is a transformation role. You will be the architect of how a 180-person team learns to build in the most significant technological shift of our generation.

A message from our CTO

TaxDome is pivoting from a traditional SaaS to an AI-first engineering organization. We aren't just "adding AI features", we are rebuilding our DNA to prioritize agentic workflows, LLM-orchestration, and automated intelligence at the core of our tech stack.

As the CTO, I am looking for a partner in strategy and a master of execution. While I focus on the "what" and the "why" of our vision, you will own the "how" and the "when."

What you’ll be responsible for

  • The AI pivot: Retool our engineering culture. Build the infrastructure, and the workflows that make AI the core of our development lifecycle. You are responsible for transforming 180+ talented engineers into an elite, AI-native force that ships high-quality, reliable, and scalable intelligent systems.

  • Radical accountability: We don't care about "effort." We care about results. You own the roadmap. If a project stalls, you unblock it. If a deadline is missed, you own the solution. You must love the weight of that responsibility.

  • The A-player standard: You will protect the culture. We have no room for "B" players or "coasters." You will push your team to do the best work of their careers, because you know that talented people want to be challenged.

  • Execution over noise: Most leaders add complexity. You will subtract it. You will clear the path so engineers can focus on the only thing that matters: shipping code that works.

What you bring

  • The scale-up veteran: You’ve led engineering organizations of 100+ people. You know what "good" looks like at scale and have the scars to prove it. Ideally you have 10+ years of engineering leadership, with at least 4 years at the VP or Director level in a high-growth environment.

  • AI-fluent (not just a fan): You understand the unique challenges of AI engineering. You don't need to be a PhD, but you must be able to call BS on a technical plan. You understand AI - not as a buzzword, but as a tool that requires a new kind of engineering rigor.

  • The disciplinarian: You believe that "Process" isn't a dirty word — it’s the rail that allows the train to go 500mph. You bring a rigorous approach to shipping in the AI-first environment.

  • A strategic partner: You can sit in a room with the CTO and debate the merits of a pivot, then walk out and rally engineers behind the chosen path as if it were your own.

  • You are the Closer. You finish what you start. You have a proven track record of shipping complex, multi-quarter projects on time and at high quality.

  • A "product-first" engineering mindset. You care more about solving the user's problem than the purity of the code.
