PR Manager
We're looking for a PR and media relations professional who understands the design and tech industry from the inside—its publications, key voices, and the kind of editorial coverage that shapes how Readymag is perceived.
The role centers on building genuine relationships with journalists and editors, developing a media strategy grounded in our product story, and crafting the materials—pitches, narratives, press backgrounders—that help the story reach the right audiences.
This is a 6-month, fully remote collaboration under a service agreement. We work primarily within the GMT+1 time zone and expect a regular overlap of business hours on weekdays to allow for meetings and live collaboration.
Who we are
Readymag is a design tool for creating websites, landing pages, portfolios, magazines, editorials, and presentations.
We’re a fully distributed team with a strong international user community and client-oriented service. We value a culture of questions and curiosity with a ‘measure what can be measured’ approach.
What you will do
Develop and execute a media relations strategy targeting design and tech press over a 6-month engagement;
Translate Readymag feature releases and product updates into story angles and pitch them proactively to relevant journalists and editors;
Build and maintain relationships with editors, journalists, and contributors across design and technology media;
Write and edit press materials—story pitches, backgrounders, founder quotes, and narrative briefs—that reflect Readymag's voice as an independent, design-driven platform;
Identify and pursue longer-lead feature opportunities: profiles, industry trend pieces, and comparative coverage where Readymag has a credible editorial angle;
Track coverage, report on outcomes, and iterate on messaging based on what resonates with different outlets.
What you’ll bring
5+ years of experience in public relations, media relations, or communications, ideally within design, creative, or tech industries;
Established network of contacts at design and tech media outlets—editors, journalists, and contributors at publications like It's Nice That, Wired, TechCrunch, The Verge, and similar;
Deep understanding of the web design and graphic design industry—its tools, culture, discourse, and key figures;
Proven track record of placing organic feature stories (not just press mentions) in relevant media;
Strong editorial instincts, ability to identify the story angle in a product update and shape it into a pitch that resonates with journalists;
Excellent writing skills: can produce compelling press materials, story narratives, and pitches independently;
Familiarity with the independent software space and what differentiates it from VC-funded product culture;
Excellent communication skills.
What happens next
A 45-minute call with our talent acquisition partner where you’ll have the opportunity to ask questions about the role;
An interview with our head of brand marketing;
A test assignment;
A finalizing call with Diana Kasay, Readymag’s chief executive officer.
A few days after the final stage, we’ll reach out to you with a decision.
