Job Description: Software QA Engineer (Contract - Global Remote)
Amoeba Software is seeking a mid-level Software QA Engineer with experience testing modern software applications, APIs, integrations, and data-driven workflows.
Familiarity with engineering software, wire harness design, manufacturing data, or technical product ecosystems is a strong advantage.
This role will be responsible for planning and executing software quality assurance activities that help ensure Amoeba products and custom solutions are accurate, reliable, and ready for customer use. The Software QA Engineer will own day-to-day test planning, test execution, defect reporting, regression coverage, and quality documentation, while priorities, risk decisions, and final release approvals will be handled in coordination with Amoeba’s Founder and designated leadership.
Compensation is hourly or milestone based, as defined in the contractor agreement, and may be tied to agreed deliverables, quality objectives, and project completion.
This position is contract based, with the potential for future full time employment for high performers. No guarantee, promise, or expectation of employment is expressed or implied.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, document, and execute manual and automated test plans, test cases, test scripts, and acceptance criteria for web applications, APIs, data pipelines, integrations, plugins, and related software
- Review product requirements, user stories, designs, and technical specifications to identify risks, ambiguities, edge cases, and testability concerns before development is completed
- Perform functional, integration, regression, exploratory, usability, compatibility, and data validation testing across supported environments
- Validate the accuracy, completeness, consistency, and traceability of data produced by Amoeba, including identifying situations in which incorrect component knowledge, mappings, or integration behavior may produce bad data
- Create clear, reproducible defect reports with expected results, actual results, supporting evidence, severity, business impact, and recommended follow-up
- Work closely with software developers, product stakeholders, component specialists, and operations personnel to reproduce issues, verify fixes, and reduce escaped defects
- Develop and maintain structured regression suites, quality checklists, test data, release-readiness records, and other QA documentation
- Test custom solutions that interface with engineering platforms, including custom integrations, data exchanges, and Siemens Capital plugins
- Learn to use wiring engineering software and other engineering software sufficiently to execute realistic workflows and verify Amoeba integrations and outputs
- Complete training provided by Amoeba component specialists on wire harness components, including terminals, cavity seals, cavity plugs, backshells, clips, and related components, and apply that knowledge during testing
- Communicate quality risks, blockers, progress, and test results promptly and professionally to the Founder and relevant team members
- Maintain clear and accurate records of testing activities, defects, decisions, progress, and outcomes
- Represent Amoeba Software professionally in internal meetings, customer-related testing activities, demonstrations, and technical discussions
Required Qualifications
- Approximately 3 to 5 years of professional software quality assurance experience, or equivalent experience demonstrating mid-level capability
- Demonstrated experience creating and executing test plans, test cases, regression suites, exploratory tests, and release validation activities
- Strong understanding of software QA methodologies, defect life cycles, risk-based testing, root-cause analysis, and software development life cycles
- Experience testing web applications, APIs, databases, integrations, and data-intensive workflows using appropriate tools and techniques
- Working knowledge of API testing tools, browser developer tools, SQL or equivalent data-query methods, issue tracking systems, and test management practices
- Experience with test automation frameworks and scripting or programming sufficient to create, maintain, or extend automated tests
- Ability to analyze complex technical behavior, distinguish software defects from data or configuration issues, and communicate findings clearly
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills appropriate for technical and business audiences
- Highly self-directed, organized, detail-oriented, and dependable in a remote contractor environment
- Willingness and demonstrated interest in learning wire harness components, electrical design workflows, and unfamiliar engineering software
- Ability to collaborate across software development, operations, engineering, and domain-specialist functions while reporting directly to the Founder
- Professionalism and responsiveness consistent with Amoeba standards, including responding to work-related questions and messages as soon as reasonably possible and, while working, no later than 24 hours after receipt; approved time off and non-working periods are excepted
- Experience supporting engineering, manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, electrical systems, or enterprise customers is preferred
- Familiarity with wiring engineering software, wire harness design, or AI-driven engineering tools is a strong bonus but is not required
Preferred
- Strongly prefer those withISTQB or equivalent certifications
Compensation Structure
- Hourly, milestone-based, or hybrid contractor compensation, as defined in the contractor agreement
- Compensation may be tied to delivered milestones, testing scope, project completion, or defined quality KPIs
- Additional or expanded project opportunities may be available based on performance, capability, and business needs
Engagement Details
- Contract role, with hours depending on workload, release activity, assigned projects, and agreed availability
- Fully remote and open to qualified candidates anywhere in the world, subject to contractor eligibility, reliable communication, and the ability to meet Amoeba’s professionalism and responsiveness standards
- Flexible schedule focused on results, quality, deliverables, and project success, with sufficient overlap for required meetings and collaboration
- The contractor must maintain reliable internet access and remain responsive during agreed working periods; work-related questions and messages must be acknowledged oranswered as soon as reasonably possible and no later than 24 hours after receipt, excluding approved time off and non-working periods
