Senior Systems Engineer
EV owners are driving the green transition, and the battery in your car is a powerful asset ready to support it. At Enkel, we unlock that potential.
Enkel is an electricity supplier bringing next-level energy management to homeowners. Our fully automated, data-driven solution forecasts your home and EV’s energy needs, constantly tracking electricity prices and grid conditions. It connects your charger to the market, optimizing charging in real time to maximise your savings and unlock earning opportunities – all without you lifting a finger.
We are now looking for a (Senior) Systems Engineer to join our highly technical, cross-functional team of experts in control engineering, energy systems and quantitative trading.
This is an opportunity to build critical infrastructure that keeps working even when the internet, APIs or datacenters fail.
In this role, you will:
Own real-time edge systems that turn market and grid signals into safe, reliable charging decisions
Design robust logging, replay and telemetry pipelines that work offline and under load
Build and optimize runtimes for enforcing charging plans with hard timing constraints
Implement fast, efficient protocol handling for binary data streams across thousands of devices
Collaborate across energy, trading and optimisation teams to ship reliable execution in production
What you bring:
Solid experience in backend development using Go, working with WebSocket communication and familiarity with Protobuf or other binary serialization formats
Understanding of the network stack and experience working below the application layer
Exposure to event queues (ideally ZeroMQ, but others are also relevant) and raw socket programming
Experience with OCPP or other EV charging protocols is a plus
Comfortable working in English (B2/C1 level) and motivated to contribute in a fast-moving team
What we offer:
Deep technical ownership on foundational systems with real-world impact
Opportunity to shape distributed runtime architecture in a fast-growing, mission-driven company
Direct collaboration with domain experts across energy systems, trading, stochastic optimisation and control engineering
A low-ego, high-impact environment where engineering quality comes first
An international team and support for relocation if needed
We know great candidates come from many different paths and encourage applications from all backgrounds. Even if you don’t see yourself reflected in every requirement but are excited about building the future of energy, we are looking forward to hearing from you.
If this sounds exciting, click here to apply - we look forward to hearing from you!
