Senior Data Engineer (Finance)

WorldwideRemoteSenior

We are seeking a hands‑on Senior Data Engineer specialising in finance and regulatory reporting to join our team. This role is responsible for designing, building and maintaining the data platforms and pipelines that power finance, reconciliation and regulatory reporting. You will work closely with Finance, Compliance, Risk and Product teams to ensure timely, accurate and auditable reporting in a regulated fintech environment.

Mission

Deliver robust, scalable data pipelines and reporting systems that enable timely financial close, regulatory submissions and operational transparency.

Ensure data lineage, accuracy and auditability across finance and compliance domains while minimising operational overhead.

What you'll actually do

  • Data Pipeline Architecture: Design and implement ETL/ELT pipelines to ingest, transform and aggregate transaction, ledger and reference data from internal systems and external providers.

  • Reporting & Reconciliation: Build deterministic reconciliation processes, matching logic and exception workflows to support accounting, treasury and regulatory reporting requirements.

  • Data Modelling: Define canonical finance and regulatory data models, maintain schemas (Parquet/Avro/JSON) and ensure models meet downstream reporting and audit needs.

  • Observability & Testability: Implement data quality checks, monitoring, lineage tracking and automated tests to detect and prevent data regressions.

  • Compliance & Audit Support: Work with Compliance and Finance to produce regulatory submissions, provide evidence for audits and ensure data handling meets regulatory controls (retention, encryption, access controls).

  • Performance & Cost Optimisation: Optimise pipelines for runtime performance and cloud cost, and implement efficient partitioning, compaction and resource utilisation strategies.

  • Platform & Tooling: Contribute to and maintain shared data platform components (orchestration, metadata, cataloguing, schema registry) and improve developer experience for data consumers.

  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with Finance, Compliance, Product and Engineering to translate reporting requirements into technical specifications and prioritise deliverables.

  • Mentorship & Best Practice: Share knowledge, establish standards for data engineering, and mentor more junior engineers to raise team capability.

What you bring

  • Experience: 5+ years in data engineering, with significant experience supporting finance, accounting or regulatory reporting in payments, fintech or financial services.

  • Technical Skills: Strong SQL and data transformation skills; experience with modern data stacks (e.g. Airflow/Prefect, dbt, Spark, Snowflake/BigQuery/Redshift or similar), streaming platforms (Kafka, Kinesis) and data serialization formats (Parquet, Avro, JSON).

  • Reporting & Accounting Knowledge: Familiarity with general ledger concepts, reconciliations, cut‑offs, accruals and common regulatory reporting regimes relevant to payments and crypto is highly desirable.

  • Quality & Observability: Experience implementing data quality frameworks, alerting, lineage and schema evolution practices.

  • Security & Compliance: Practical understanding of data protection, encryption, RBAC and audit requirements in a regulated environment.

  • Testing & Automation: Comfortable building automated tests for pipelines and CI/CD for data deployments.

  • Cloud & Scalability: Hands‑on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP or Azure), containerisation and scalable data processing patterns.

  • Communication: Excellent written and spoken English. Able to explain technical trade‑offs to non‑technical stakeholders and document processes clearly for audit purposes.

  • Problem Solving: Detail‑oriented, pragmatic and customer focused. You design solutions that reduce operational risk and simplify reporting workflows.

What we offer

  • Work fully remote as part of an agile, international team shaping the future of finance.

  • Competitive salary range determined by individual experience and contribution.

  • Career progression with opportunities to grow into senior technical, management or cross‑functional roles.

  • Impact & ownership: Work on mission‑critical data systems where accuracy, transparency and compliance are essential.

  • Collaborative culture: Join a transparent environment that values open dialogue, experimentation and measurable impact.

If you are excited by building reliable, auditable data foundations for finance and regulatory reporting, we’d love to hear from you. Please apply with a CV and a short note describing a reporting or reconciliation challenge you led, your role and the technical approach you took.
