Why Apply to Koombea?
Did you know that Koombea is one of Latin America's fastest-growing software development companies? We help our clients all over the world build digital products that make users' lives better.
By joining our team, you will not only receive amazing benefits and become part of a flexible and innovative work culture. You will also get to share directly with some of the region's most talented and intelligent software developers.

The Job
As a Ruby on Rails Developer, your main goal is to build scalable, reliable, and high-performing backend systems on Rails, using AI as a core part of how you work. The foundation is solid engineering: you bring strong Ruby and Rails fundamentals, systems thinking, and problem-solving instincts to deliver maintainable and efficient solutions — and you take full ownership of the code you ship, whether you wrote it line by line or generated it with an AI agent.

What You'll Do

  • Build and maintain scalable backend services and APIs in Ruby on Rails

  • Design clean, maintainable, and reliable Rails application architectures (MVC, service objects, background jobs)

  • Integrate REST APIs and third-party services within Rails applications

  • Collaborate proactively with PMs, designers, developers, and QAs in multi-disciplinary projects, raising blockers, risks, and ideas early rather than waiting to be asked

  • Review, refactor, and maintain clean codebases — both human-written and AI-generated — with close attention to detail, catching subtle bugs and edge cases before they reach production

  • Take full responsibility for the correctness, security, and quality of your code, regardless of whether it was written manually or with the help of AI coding agents

  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, bugs, and scalability issues in Rails applications
Implement secure and efficient data storage solutions using ActiveRecord and relational databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL)

  • Build and maintain lightweight frontend views and components (ERB/Slim/Haml, Hotwire/Turbo/Stimulus, or a JS framework) at a conversational, working level to support full-stack features

  • Ensure backend reliability, performance, and maintainability across environments

What You Bring To The Team

Must Have Skills

  • 4+ years of experience as a Backend Developer, with strong, hands-on experience in Ruby on Rails specifically

  • Deep knowledge of Rails conventions and internals: ActiveRecord, ActiveJob, ActionCable, routing, migrations, and the Rails request lifecycle

  • Strong programming fundamentals and backend architecture intuition. You can reason about unfamiliar systems, debug complex issues, refactor with intent, and recognize when something needs structural rework rather than a surface-level patch

  • Real, daily experience using AI tools (e.g. Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot) in your Rails development workflow, while retaining full ownership and accountability over the resulting code

  • Conversational-level frontend skills: comfortable reading, writing, and debugging HTML/CSS/JavaScript and working within Rails view layers or a connected frontend framework

  • Experience building and maintaining RESTful APIs and third-party integrations in a Rails context

  • Strong understanding of relational databases, Rails architecture patterns, scalability, and application performance

  • Experience with automated testing (RSpec/Minitest) and disciplined debugging practices

  • Demonstrated attention to detail — you catch edge cases, inconsistent naming, missing validations, and subtle logic errors in both your own and AI-generated code

  • Experience reviewing and maintaining both human-written and AI-generated code

  • Familiarity with Git and collaborative development workflows

  • Experience working in Agile and Scrum environments, with proactive, clear communication in stand-ups, PR reviews, and async channels

  • Good written and spoken English communication skills

Nice To Have

  • Experience with GraphQL in a Rails API

  • Experience working with cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Heroku) and CI/CD pipelines

  • Experience with Sidekiq, message queues, or distributed systems

  • Experience working on AI-powered products or AI integrations within a Rails app

We Offer You

  • Flexible Working Schedule

  • Remote Work

  • Competitive Compensation

  • Performance Bonuses

  • Surprise Goodies

+ Many Cool Benefits
