Accountant / Finance Specialist (Cyprus)

We are looking for a hands-on Accountant / Finance Specialist to manage day-to-day accounting, payroll, tax-related processes, and financial operations for our Cyprus entity.

This role requires strong practical knowledge of Cyprus accounting and payroll procedures, local tax requirements, and financial administration. As the Cyprus entity will run financial operations within our fintech ecosystem, the role also covers fintech-specific processes and tax optimisation regimes, including the Cyprus IP Box.

You will work closely with our international Finance and HR teams to make sure payments are accurate and on time, documentation is in order, and the entity complies with local regulations.

Candidates must be based in Cyprus and have practical experience working with Cyprus financial and tax processes.

Responsibilities:

• Accounting & Financial Operations
• Manage day-to-day accounting and financial operations for the Cyprus entity.
• Support the Cyprus entity's financial operations in a fintech environment, including multi-currency payments, payment provider settlements and, where applicable, digital asset transactions.
• Process supplier invoices, employee reimbursements, and other company payments.
• Manage employee advances, business travel expenses, and expense reports.
• Monitor accounts payable and receivable and maintain accurate financial records.
• Perform bank reconciliations and support cash flow monitoring.
• Maintain financial documentation and coordinate with banks, vendors, and external accountants.
• Payroll & Employee Payments
• Prepare and coordinate monthly payroll for Cyprus-based employees.
• Calculate salaries, bonuses, advances, reimbursements, and other employee-related payments.
• Handle payroll deductions and contributions, including PAYE, Social Insurance, and GHS/GESY.
• Support employee onboarding and offboarding from a payroll and financial administration perspective.
• Work closely with HR to ensure accurate payroll data and timely payments.
• Tax & Compliance
• Support Cyprus tax compliance, including VAT, payroll taxes, and statutory contributions.
• Support the application of the Cyprus IP Box regime: track qualifying R&D expenditure, maintain the documentation required under the nexus approach, and coordinate with external tax advisors.
• Prepare and submit relevant tax and payroll declarations, where applicable.
• Monitor tax deadlines and ensure timely payments to local authorities.
• Coordinate with external accountants, auditors, and tax advisors.
• Support financial reporting, audits, and year-end closing procedures.
• Ensure financial operations comply with Cyprus accounting and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience in accounting, payroll, or finance operations.
• Practical experience with Cyprus accounting, payroll, and taxation is essential.
• Strong understanding of Cyprus payroll procedures, PAYE, Social Insurance, and GHS/GESY contributions.
• Experience processing salaries, employee advances, reimbursements, and business travel expenses.
• Understanding of VAT, tax filings, and local financial reporting requirements.
• At least a basic understanding of the Cyprus IP Box regime: qualifying IP assets, the nexus approach, and the 80% exemption on qualifying profits.
• Experience in fintech or financial services, including an understanding of payment flows and financial operations specific to fintech companies.
• Confident Excel skills and experience with accounting software.
• Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple financial processes.
• Good communication skills and a proactive, hands-on approach.
• English B2+.
• Currently residing in Cyprus.
